Dall’ Automobile all’ Arte
The CISITALIA 202, designed by Pinin Farina, was the first car to become part of the Museum of Modern Art of New York (MoMA), the most prestigious modern art museum in the world.
Nell’autunno del 1951 il museo allestì una mostra sul design e l’estetica dell’automobile intitolata ‘Eight Automobiles’. Fu proprio in quell’occasione che nacque la celebre espressione ‘Rolling Sculpture’, coniata da Arthur Drexler, l’influente curatore del Dipartimento di Architettura del MoMA. Sia ‘Rolling Sculpture’ sia ‘Monolithic Sculptural’ sarebbero rimasti gli slogan non ufficiali della Cisitalia 202 per il resto dei suoi giorni.
Al termine della mostra, il MoMA decise di trattenere la CISITALIA 202 come parte della sua collezione permanente.

Just like other great icons, the Cisitalia 202 appears in the world of philately, on the stamps of various countries.
The name Cisitalia amassed a huge amount of fame in those years. It was even on national lottery tickets.

1987 “The Sicilian” – Michael Cimino. Starring Christopher Lambert, John Turturro and Richard Bauer.
